EL COLIBRÍ IS COMING BACK!
Hola El Colibrí Familia!
We are messaging you today to close off our debut season of El Colibrí, which without your generous support and attendance, would not have been possible.
Our season ran from the 13-15th at BATS Theatre during the NZ Fringe Festival 2026. We had a total of four shows and we loved seeing so many of your beautiful faces there. We cannot express how thankful we are for your support, wihtout you these opportunities for development and platforming of our voices would not be possible.
Your donations supported: The payment of cast, securing song rights, purchasing of materials for set design, compensating dramaturgs and collaborators for their contributions, transport to a radio interview on QUE ONDA! where Marilyn and Elia were broadcast live speaking espanol to discuss their creative influences and the show, aswell as buying juices for when our cast's voices and bodies were feeling the strain of mounting a show! We are all so greatful!
ALSO! We wanna tell you something awesome!
Last Night the NZ Fringe Festival hosted its Awards ceremony at The Hannah. These awards recognise emerging talent and work that would benefit from development or future seasons! The El Colibrí cast and crew were extremely honoured and fortunate enough to be nominated for 4 awards!
Here is what you donation supported -
- Nomination: Most Promising Emerging Ngā Toi Artist (Supported by CNZ Te Hā o ngā Toi Māori Arts Strategy) - For which our producer Zody was nominated.
- Win: Most Promising Pasifika Artist (Supported by CNZ Pasific Arts Stratergy) - For which our amazing Monēt (Abuelito) won!
- Nomination: Melbourne Fringe Indigenous Exchange Award (Supported by Melbourne Fringe & NZ Fringe) - For which El Colibrí was nominated alongside two amazing Māori works!
- Win: The Parkin Development Award (Supported by Chris and Kathy Parkin & BATS Theatre) - For which El Colibrí won.
What do these awards mean? These awards recognise the amazing talent and potential of our not only our amazing team but the Performing Arts sector as a whole. They provide recognition and opportunity as well as support for emerging artists such as those on our team.
It also means, we have been supported by Chris and Kathy Parkin & BATS Theatre to further develop El Colibrí for a second season, for which we are extremely proud and greatful!
So... what happens now?
Our creative team gets together to celebrate the success of our debut season, and then we launch into the work of remounting the show for a second season at BATS Theatre between now and NZ Fringe 2027.
And then! We do it all over again and we see you at BATSTheatre for a strengthened, refined and even more beautiful staging of this story.
From the bottom of our hearts, thankyou!
¡Hasta luego! BESOS! - El Colibrí xx
