The Project

Eat, Sleep, Dance, Repeat is a solo dance-theatre show written and performed by Rachel Brebner. After sold-out seasons in Tāmaki Makaurau and Ōtautahi, it’s heading to Wellington Fringe! This high-energy, uniquely New Zealand story celebrates the love of performing arts while exploring coming-of-age themes, and your support will help bring it to life on stage.

The Team

Eat Productions is a queer-led theatre company established in 2024, dedicated to uplifting queer creatives and centring original, vulnerable stories that audiences can deeply resonate with. Our creative practice is grounded in authenticity, physical storytelling, and bold personal narratives — with comedy at the heart.

The Team of Eat Sleep Dance Repeat

  • Rach Brebner — Writer, Director & Performer

  • Millie Hanford — Director

  • Alylai Flynn — Designer & Operator

  • Zach Te Mari — Tech-Performer

The team consists of four emerging creators from Tāmaki Makaurau and Ōtautahi. After previous successful seasons, we’re excited to continue touring the work and bring it to Fringe audiences.

The Funding

We’re seeking support to make this project possible. Funds raised through this Boosted campaign will go directly towards essential production costs, including-

  • Marketing expenses — to reach audiences and build momentum

  • Venue and technical fees — to present the work professionally

  • Cast travel expenses — supporting our team to tour the show

Every contribution helps us stage this work sustainably — even a small donation goes a long way!

The Details

Set in 2017 — the year Stage Challenge disappeared forever — four teens from Bloomdale High, Palmerston North, are chasing one goal: win nationals. Performing arts nerds, dreamers, chaos-makers — they’re ready to give it everything.

Rachel brings to life four characters, each from a different high school social group, navigating friendship, sexuality, and politics — all through the love of dance. It’s a comedy, but also explores coming-of-age themes and how arts experiences shape that journey for our rangatahi. Armed with Jacinda Ardern’s election glow and ultimate girl-power bangers, the team is ready to shine… but the road to Pōneke doesn’t go quite as planned.

Told through a mockumentary lens, this solo show is packed with blood, sweat, tears… and a nostalgic trip down memory lane back to high school. It’s a love letter to the arts, and your support will help cover the creative team, production costs, and materials needed to bring this high-energy, uniquely New Zealand story to life.

The Impact

Creator Quote — Rach Brebner:

“I believe it’s the right time to stage this work given the political climate. With arts funding tighter than ever, it’s more important than ever that we keep staging art, given how much it serves our community! The characters are teens to capture the relentless optimism some young people have, and to try to capture the energy of ‘WE CAN SAVE THE WORLD WITH OUR ART.’ I love creating work with important themes, but in feel-good shows that leave people uplifted when they leave. And yes — it’s also a crack-up!”

Eat Sleep Dance Repeat creates space for queer stories that are funny, vulnerable, and deeply human. At its heart, this solo work celebrates the joy, chaos, and sincerity of giving everything to art, reflecting the experiences of many performing arts kids in Aotearoa.

Through humour and honesty, the show explores friendship, sexuality, politics, and coming-of-age themes, while capturing the relentless optimism of youth — the belief that we can change the world with our art.

Backing this project means supporting emerging queer artists, independent theatre, and stories that remind audiences of the power, joy, and importance of making art.
