The Project
Dickey's Dead is a short comedy film following the death of prodigal SoundCloud Rapper, Dicky Vingas. A priest must navigate his first funeral service while clashing with the deceased’s crazed relatives. As a plethora of zany, wacky characters slowly dismantle the service, Father Bill does everything in his heavenly power to give Dicky a proper farewell.
The Team
The creative team behind Dicky's Dead includes a range of talented third year Massey Screen Arts students based in Te Whanganui-a-Tara.
Creative leader and Writer/Director Charlie Daly has a unique style of writing and a knack for comedy storytelling. It is his second time directing a comedy alongside his producer Hannah Sutton, they have a dynamic relationship and a desire to continue to create and entertain.
Our Director of Photography Chai Ruakere-Forbes has years of experience in film-making, with an extensive range of technical knowledge and an eye for visual art, him and the rest of the talented camera team are creatively and technically driven to give this film its own style.
Our costuming HOD and production designer Teal Rogers has her own personal style which she brings from outside onto the screen. With a bold and resourceful vision she creates a space where the characters and the story come together.

The Details
We want to breathe life back into comedy through navigating the unconventional. Exploring how grief and comedy allign, we hope to create a film that makes people laugh in ways they don’t expect. As our final year of university we wanted to create something technically, narratively and visually improved from our past work. We believe as young film-makers there is a platform for us to navigate the scene and pave the way for new stories.

The Impact
We want this short film to be experienced by our peers, family, friends and hope for it to continue further through the film community. We would love support from the community to help this film come to life, as young film makers we need all the support we can to continue to create and navigate the industry.
