The Project
Hemlock Cabin is a story seen through a father (Clinton) and son (Sean) who have a fractured relationship. In an attempt to reconnect, they go hiking into the Aotearoa wilderness. As the sun sets, they make their way to Hemlock cabin. Thinking it would be just the two of them, they find that they will not be staying the night here alone. They meet a man named Scott. Seemingly nice enough, Scott has a hidden agenda… to kill Sean. Throughout the film, the truth of Scott's intentions and their justification will be revealed. What is it that Sean did that made Scott feel this way? What did Clinton have to do with this? All will be revealed in the thriller and tension filled picture “Hemlock Cabin”.

The Details
This is the final student project of the course. Everyone working on this film has been working hard for two years up to this point, the final film. This is really important for all of us as this is what we have all been working so hard for. I don't think that this film has to be made for some morally good reason. I believe this film needs to be made for the sake of art. For the sake of the visual storytelling medium. The ability to take an audience on an emotional journey where they can escape, even just for 15 minutes. I don’t believe every piece of art needs to be relevant to current work dilemmas and issues. Sometimes, you just gotta make an entertaining film, for the sake of entertainment.
The Impact
This film needs to be seen because it captures the side of youth we don’t usually talk about - the chaos, pressure, and choices that can change everything in a single night. It’s about how easy it is to lose yourself trying to fit in or escape what’s really going on inside. I want people to feel something real when they watch it - to see the consequences of those moments we brush off as just another party.
Our community should back this project because it’s our story; it comes from the experiences, people, and environments we see every day. It’s raw, honest, and made by young filmmakers who want to show the truth of what it’s like growing up right now.
