The Project
Kia ora koutou!
Ōpōtiki Rangatahi Pā is a kaupapa Māori youth organisation focussed on developing cool programmes and activities for our tamariki and rangatahi.
CraftyVibes is one of our first and most frequented programmes - but we need more support to make our project bigger and better.
CraftyVibes grew from a simple idea - give young people a relaxed space to create, kōrero, and try new things. What started as a small craft break at lunchtime in Ōpōtiki College quickly became one of our most loved programmes afterschool in our community, with tamariki and rangatahi showing up every week excited to make, learn, and spend time together.
We believe creativity is powerful. When rangatahi are given the tools and encouragement to create, they discover confidence, identity, and connection.
CraftyVibes sits alongside our other youth initiatives including sports programmes, upcoming theatre and performance opportunities, and Horizons Press -- our rangatahi-led creative storytelling and publishing project.
Together these programmes give young people different ways to express themselves, discover their strengths, and build a sense of belonging.
The Team
Ōpōtiki Rangatahi Pā is a community-led kaupapa Māori youth initiative based in Ōpōtiki. Our focus is simple: create positive spaces where tamariki and rangatahi can connect, learn new skills, express themselves creatively, and grow their confidence.
We’re a small team of local volunteers, whānau, and mentors who believe in the potential of our young people. Many of us are teachers, artists, parents, and community advocates who see firsthand how important safe, welcoming environments are for tamariki and rangatahi.
The Funding
The funding raised will help expand CraftyVibes and ensure the programme can continue to grow.
Your support will help provide:
Creative materials -- Paint, fabrics, tools, beads, craft supplies and art equipment.
Workshop resources -- Special materials and equipment for larger creative projects and skill-building workshops.
Shared kai -- Simple kai that helps create a welcoming and inclusive environment for rangatahi.
Programme support -- Helping cover the costs of running regular sessions in a safe and welcoming space.
Storage and organisation -- Shelving and storage so materials can be reused and the programme can grow sustainably.
The Details
CraftyVibes is a creative programme where tamariki and rangatahi can explore art, craft, design and making in a relaxed and welcoming environment.
Sessions include activities such as:
• painting and drawing
• crafting and DIY projects
• upcycling and creative design
• weaving and cultural art practices
• collaborative creative projects
CraftyVibes gives rangatahi the freedom to experiment, learn new skills, and express themselves creatively while building friendships and confidence.
Many young people in our community do not always have access to creative materials or art spaces. CraftyVibes removes these barriers by providing supplies, encouragement, and a positive environment where creativity can flourish.
The Impact
CraftyVibes creates a space where rangatahi can slow down, connect with others, and discover their creativity.
Through making and creating, young people build:
✨ confidence in their ideas
✨ problem-solving and creative thinking
✨ friendships and connection
✨ pride in their work
✨ a sense of belonging
For many tamariki and rangatahi, CraftyVibes has become a place where they feel comfortable being themselves.
When creativity is nurtured, confidence grows - and that confidence carries into school, whānau life, and the wider community.
By supporting this project, you are helping grow opportunities for tamariki and rangatahi in Ōpōtiki to learn, create, and thrive.
