This is a dance event built by the community, for the community.
Our kaupapa is simple: give control back to the dancers who live and breathe the culture. No outside influence, no industry gatekeeping—just authentic movement shaped by the people who make the scene what it is.

Putting on an event like this takes resources, and traditional funding is hard to access and often slow to arrive. That’s why we’re turning to Boosted—to our people. With your help, we can create something real, powerful, and truly ours.

This project is backed by a powerhouse team passionate about elevating Aotearoa’s street dance scene. At the heart is XIII WRLD, a dedicated street dance team committed to creating high-quality, inspiring experiences for dancers and audiences alike. Leading the charge is Byrin 'XIII' Mita, director of XIII WRLD and creator of the immersive street dance experience Proof of Existence. A world champion and respected leader in the scene, Byrin is known for pushing boundaries and raising the standard of street dance in New Zealand. Visual storytelling is driven by Joseph Taylor, a graphic engineer with a background in performance and street dance, who merges art and tech to craft stunning visuals that elevate every event. Our venue partner, Raynham Park, provides a transformative space with a strong track record of supporting community-led arts events, offering a platform for dancers to grow not just as performers but as creative leaders. Together, we’re building something real.

Every dollar raised through Boosted goes directly into making CNTRL-VS a powerful, high-quality experience for everyone involved. Here’s how your support will be used:

• Team Compensation
  Covering time and labour for planning, directing, and administering the event. This ensures our core team is valued for their work behind the scenes to make everything run smoothly.
• Graphic Engineering & Visuals
  Creating the bold, immersive visuals that will define the look and feel of CNTRL-VS. This includes motion graphics and themed design elements that enhance the experience for both dancers and spectators.
• Prize Pool
  A meaningful reward for participants, recognising the talent and energy dancers bring to the floor.
• Key Roles
  Paying the people who bring the energy and elevate the event. This includes securing top local MCs, DJs, and any special guest performers.
• Production & Logistics
  Covering venue-related costs, equipment hire, technical support, and other essentials to ensure a smooth and professional event experience.
• Contingency & Boosted Fees
  Accounting for Boosted’s platform fees and any unforeseen costs.

This event flips the traditional format on its head. Instead of judges calling the shots, the outcome of each battle is decided by the dancers themselves. It’s about giving the power back to the community—encouraging honest dialogue, healthy debate, and the kind of self-belief that too often goes unspoken in Aotearoa’s creative spaces. CNTRL-VS combats tall poppy syndrome by creating a space where dancers are not only allowed—but encouraged—to speak up, back themselves, and acknowledge their greatness with pride and humility.

This is a community-first event. We’re not relying on big funding bodies or waiting around for approval. We’re calling on our people—those who love this culture and believe in its future—to help us make it happen through Boosted. Every dollar pledged is a vote of confidence in the dancers, artists, and dreamers who make this community what it is.
