Wellington Te Whanganui-a-Tara
The Project
Comedy Short Film following Bob, a regular young man moving to Wellington and being confronted with its quirks and its overwhelming openness. A series of odd events unfolds before Bob's eyes, threatening his routine and shaking his sense of security until he eventually embraces his true self.
This short film is a hilarious love letter to the city written by three passionate film students. A camp treat for Wellingtonians and those who love a good laugh.
Unapologetically absurd.
Some of our inspirations include: Flight of the Conchords; Eagle VS Shark; Fleabag and The Office.
The Team
We are a group of second year film students hoping to make you laugh.
A huge part of our practice involves acknowledging our influences and environment. The influences are our university peers, our environment is Wellington.
So of course, we caricaturized ourselves into bizarre characters to tell a tale about what could only happen in this city.
Here is the core Crew!
Producer: Angelina Cariga

The Funding
All money raised will go towards the project, with priority given to art department, catering, transport and festival submissions. After that we want to provide a small koha fee for our Heads Of Department.
The Details
Easter eggs, references, caricatures, absurdity. A treat for those familiar with Wellington and love a good laugh. This film is campy and over the top, yet relatable.
The main character Bob, played by Hugo Montgomery, is seemingly the only normal person in this story. Almost too normal, for Wellington anyway.
The Impact
The power of comedy is underrated, it brings people together and that's exactly our aim. Making fun of ourselves and referencing local quirks is the way to solidify our community.
It's a common kiwi trait to be humble, but it's important to celebrate ourselves rather than looking elsewhere for inspiration. We need more local art.
