Black Channel

Overview
Black Channel is a 3D first person sci-fi horror game, and our thesis project for our final year studying Creative Media Production at Massey University.
THE GAME
After humanity's mass exodus from Earth in 1997, a corporatocratic cassette futurism colony was established on the edge of the Boötes void. This giant void in space was discovered to be filled with gravitational anomalies, allowing for ‘faster than light’ space travel. The largely unknown nature of the void and gravitational anomalies within have caused the strange and unusual dissapearences of many ships.
The player takes on the role of Markus Schulz, a newly recruited search and rescue pilot as he begins his 10 year contract aboard the Apastron 04. Along with the 04's A.I., sarOS, Markus is tasked to patrol the infamous Bermuda Triangle-like area known as the ‘Black Channel’. When a fatal malfunction leaves Markus stranded and drifting deeper into the Channel, the player must piece together a 60 year old mystery and repair the ship before the incomprihensible entities that reside within the void are awoken.
Our aim is to create a short narrative based game using Unreal Engine 4 with approximately 20-30 minutes of gameplay. As the player progresses through the main narrative, told through conversations between Markus and sarOS, they comple physics based puzzles, gaining access to more rooms onboard the ship where they can find audio logs, written reports, and objects that tell a new piece of the story.
THE ASK
With YOUR help, we not only be able to raise our entire project budget, but also elevate the game's quality to a professional, industry standard. Your donations will go towards voice acting and music composition fees, as well as post-production expenses like marketing and distribution to help put Black Channel and our team on the map as rising New Zealand game makers. Donations of any amount, big or small, are hugely appreciated and will help our team immensely in the creation of our unique, exciting and local game project!
THE TEAM
Our core team is made up of 12 passionate and driven students in our final year studying Creative Media Production at Massey University. With several previous game projects under our belts, we are a tight-knit and confident crew excited to flex our creative muscles and create an exciting, immersive, and terrifying game experience. Assisting the main crew is our amazing and talented team of 2nd year students.
