"A View from Somewhere"exhibition

I have produced a unique body of abstract paintings on paper, and deconstructed collages. I will be having a solo show at Nelson's Refinery Art Space in September, and will need help with costs relating to putting on my show.

My name is Lance Kerr, I'm a contemporary artist based in Kawatiri, Westport.

I'm interested in exploring an East/West philosophical dialogue in my work around the topic of "The Nature of Mind".

I like to create unique work that speaks to our times. My work over the last 6 years has been in response to my first visit to Japan.

With Aotearoa's Asia-Pacific context, I wanted to create a body of work that sparks conversation, debate, and integration. The topic of Buddhist thought is better understood in the West, now better than ever, largely with the advances in scientific and philosophical research around its practices and philosophies. My work speaks to this rich topic and explores the idea of 'Deconstruction' from an emerging East/West comparative theme.

I feel it's an interesting and rich topic, largely undervalued in our general culture. Shinning a light on this approach would encourage a cross-disciplinary approach, encouraging 'Integration'.

Most importantly, I aim to create a rich aesthetic and contemplative experience in the visitor's state of mind when visiting my show.

"A View from Somewhere" is the result of over a decade of creative experimentation and philosophical research. This body of work has emerged from personal crisis and healing. This is my strongest body of work I've created and has the potential to speak directly to the human soul or spark a personal insight.
