The Project
A Hardware Love Affair is an original, hilariously Kiwi musical where Mitre 10 Mega and Bunnings Warehouse face off in a battle of love and loyalty. We’re Full Volume Theatre pumping up the noise by 15%. We need your help to bring this camp, chaotic love story to life on stage this November.
The Team
We’re Full Volume Theatre, a loud and proud theatre company formed by Sophie Helm and Lizzie Bysouth under Te Herenga Waka’s Master of Fine Arts (Creative Practice) programme in Te Whanganui-a-Tara.

The Funding
We need your help to build A Hardware Love Affair from the ground up. Your support will help us cover:
- Production costs – set, props, costumes, and technical gear
- Creative support – koha for our hardworking cast and crew
- Marketing & publicity – promo to fill the theatre
Every dollar goes directly into building the world of this show.
The Details
Set in fictional small-town New Zealand, this show follows Maddie Phillips, a fiercely loyal Mitre 10 Mega employee who goes undercover at rival hardware store, Bunnings Warehouse. In this Mastertopyian world, once you turn 18 you must choose one hardware store to work at for the rest of your life. Here, loyalty is everything. After all, “it’s the way it’s always been, you’re either orange or you’re green.”
This high-energy comedy is an homage to Kiwi humour and the vibrant history of musical theatre, in a story where true love, loyalty, and ride-on lawnmowers collide.
The Impact
Backing A Hardware Love Affair means supporting a bold new original Kiwi musical made by emerging creatives. This work is for everyone who’s ever laughed about Aotearoa’s Mitre 10 vs Bunnings, for musical theatre lovers, and for anyone who wants to see fresh, camp, unapologetically Kiwi theatre on stage.
Your contribution helps young artists develop their craft, creates space for ambitious new theatre in Te Whanganui-a-Tara, and gives audiences a night of pure joy, chaos, and community.
Help us turn the Mitre 10 carpark into a stage where power tools meet power ballads.
