Rebecca Robin
Rebecca Robin, also known by her musical project Ruby Kush Music, is a singer songwriter, multimedia creative and wāhine Māori of Ngāti Kahungunu, Rongomaiwahine descent, based in Ōtautahi Christchurch East.
She began her musical journey at the Christchurch School of Music and has been dedicating her self to the arts for over a decade, working across music, writing, poetry and Māori media.
Her debut EP Stardust, a body of work about loss and walking back into the light, introduced her music to audiences across Aotearoa, with two music videos screened on Juice TV.
She holds resident artist status at Toi Auaha, the creative hub at the heart of Ōtautahi's arts precinct.
She hosts Wāhine Wavelength, a podcast celebrating wāhine voices across arts, culture and community, and operates Rebecca Robin Creative, bringing together her music, writing, Māori media background and professional creative work under one practice.
For Rebecca, music and advocacy have always been the same thing. She goes into the dark places and makes something from them. She is deeply rooted in Christchurch East and her upcoming 8-track album traces a personal and collective journey through the Ōtautahi earthquakes, what was lost and what was found on the other side.
