Ana Teofilo

Ana Teofilo is a New Zealand born Samoan Visual artist who creates contemporary Pasifika art works from her hometown of Dunedin. She was the recipient of the Con Hutton Scholarship in 2015 which contributed to her Masters in Visual Arts from the Dunedin School of Art at Otago Polytechnic. Ana’s practice is unique in that she merges her Samoan heritage and Western influence to create intricately patterned works. Painted boards, often rings, circles or frangipani-like forms, are methodically carved and then decorated with glue dots that are opaque but reflect the base and surrounding colours. This effect enhances the three-dimensional appearance of the carving to form striking artworks.

Ana Teofilo Gallery - Studio: A new Pasifika Art space in South Dunedin

Ana Teofilo Gallery-Studio will be my new creative space in South Dunedin dedicated to celebrating Pacific culture through art. This space will be more than just a studio. It will be a public gallery, a creative hub, and a welcoming place to connect, unwind, and be immersed in the stories of the Pacific. Over the past 10 years, I’ve poured my heart into creating work that reflects Pacific identity, heritage, and lived experience. Now, I’m opening the doors very soon to share that journey with the community through exhibitions, workshops, and community events. The Gallery-Studio will also support emerging Pacific artists, offering mentorship, space to pop in, and a platform to grow in a nurturing environment.
