I disassociate. And my story about the 'why' is long-winded. It includes the word 'trauma' - a word I am over. So instead I will tell you about the ME that matters, the parts that I think are relevant here and may interest you.
I am in recovery. One step at a time 12 step programs have helped me let go of my numbing strategies. I am finally beginning the process of full recovery. And hence, finally able to stage this work.
I am a mother of 3 adult children, a Nana of one mokopuna , and a wife of one kickass guy. I love my whanaū with my whole heart and am constantly wanting to show them off. I like who I am becoming with them in my life.
I am a certified Nonviolent Communication Trainer (NVC). I have dedicated the last 17 years to sharing this incredible tool Internationally. I love it. It keeps me real and connected with what matters in life - compassion, manaakitanga and whanaungatanga.
I am a Dancer, a Choreographer. Ever since I found the dance studio aged 5, I was home inside movement. It expresses everything words can't. So I 'trained' and completed my Performing & Screen Arts Degree, worked in film, freelance, and collaborated - creativity at the core of my soul. I went on to train as a Teacher, and supported teens to express their own creativity - so incredibly meaningful. Now I return to Choreography as my body is ready to slow down.
I am 55. I have lived a full and colourful life. This is the first time I am bringing a work to the Wellington Fringe Festival stage since 1996. It has been quite a journey. And now I am here.
