Emma Timmis
I'm Emma. I've committed my life to tackling huge endurance adventures until a few years ago when I began to struggle with a still undiagnosed leg pain. This put a halt to all of my adventuring. Having never done an office job I had to get creative and begin a new career. After not picking up my pencils or paints for over ten years, I decided to get back into art. Many years ago I started a Diploma in Children's book illustration but I never completed it as I was working multiple jobs supporting my partner.
Having all these experiences of amazing journeys around the world, it occurred to me that there are so many lessons children can learn through my adventures. Last year, while waiting for a date for an operation on my leg, I dedicated my time to writing my first children's book. That story is now complete but the pictures are waiting to be finished. Imagine reading your child a bedtime story about someone running across Africa and them believing that they could do something like that too. Imagine them finding out it's a true story, and that the same person wrote and illustrated the book. Don't you want everyone to dream big!!
Since 2011, some of the adventures I've completed are:
Running across South Africa
Running across Africa!
Cycling from Manchester to Italy to go rock climbing
Walking the Australian Alpine Walking Track
Riding an Elliptical bike across Australia (gaining a Guinness World Record)
Having this problem with my leg has been absolutely devastating to me but I'm determined to turn it around and make it the best thing that's happened to me. Without this I may not have returned to art!
