Giles Peterson
I am an independent curator and educator - born in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea, and lecturing at Whitecliffe College of Arts and Design in Auckland, Aotearoa - New Zealand, where I teach courses in Contemporary Art Asia Pacific, Fashion and Sustainability, Arts Management. The focus of my research is the intersection between customary and contemporary Pasifika arts and urban cultures and is undertaken while working on specific projects with emerging Maori and Pasifika artists and designers. The research examines the interface between these contemporary creative practices, seeking to build knowledge and visibility for the performance of Pacific identity, world-building, and ways of being. My current research contribution more often takes the form of monographs, interviews, and journal articles that examine the new work of diasporic international Pacific Islander communities, artists, educators, and designers. The research is published through platforms that can better extend these practices to international audiences and contexts and builds upon my long-term engagement as a curator of Pacific creative practice. The significance of my current research is best evidenced by several national and international research outcomes. In 2014, I was invited as one of three NZ nominators of the Signature Art Prize at the Singapore Art Museum, to write a monograph on one of the 15 nominated exhibiting finalists for the exhibition’s publication: New Zealand artist Lisa Reihana and her award-winning multi-media work, In Pursuit of Venus 2012. I am a founding member of the Tautai Contemporary Pacific Arts Trust and have mentored three generations of Tautai artists. I am also an independent curator whose most recent exhibitions include Tīaho: Photography from Oceania (2010) and Garden of Memories: Extending Quilt Making Traditions from around the Pacific (2019). My most recent curatorial project - is the significant group exhibition - SALTWATER /Interconnectivity - co - curated with multimedia artist, activator and educator -Katharine Losi Atafu - Mayo for Tautai Gallery, Auckland in 2020 - 2021. This exhibition is featured in my most recent research output - a co - written journal article on SALTWATER /Interconnectivity with Atafu - Mayo and Stacy Kamehiro and Maggie Wander for Pacific Arts - The Journal of the Pacific Arts Association, March 2022, University of California, UC Santa Cruz, pp 130 to 156, TitleSpecial Issue "Pacific Island Worlds: Oceanic Dis/Positions"Permalink https://escholarship.org/uc/item/9554q8t1Journal Pacific Arts: The Journal of the Pacific Arts Association, 22(1)ISSN 1018-4252 AuthorEditors, Pacific Arts Publication Date 2022DOI: 10.5070/PC222156854

Arts in the MediaJoshua Prendeville: Building an Audience on Boosted
Accomplished Filmmaker Joshua Prendeville first came to Boosted in order to help with funding his 2024 Film 'The House Within,' documenting the life and work of 2026 Katherine Mansfield Menton Fellow Dame Fiona Kidman. Since then he has gone on to direct an adaptation of Katherine Mansfield's 'The Garden Party,' that was also funded in part through Boosted. His latest project is 'Earthly Shadows,' a short film adaptation of the award-winning story by Fiona Kidman. For Joshua, Boosted has become a more than just a funding avenue, it's a way to bring his audience onboard at the start of a film's journey and bring that crowd along with him. Joshua was kind enough to share with us his experiences and lessons learned from growing his audience on Boosted, and how he aims to bring them on a journey with his latest project, 'Earthly Shadows.'18 May 2026 -
