Claire O'Loughlin
I am a Wellington-based writer and installation artist, with experience in theatre-making, producing and fundraising. I studied Theatre and English Literature at Victoria University, completing my BA in 2008, doing my first-class Honours year in 2013, and my Creative Writing (non-fiction) MA with distinction in 2017.
I currently work as a writer at Springload, Wellington's largest independent digital agency.
I co-founded contemporary performance company Binge Culture with five others at uni in 2008, and am the co-director and co-producer of Binge's participatory community-building street show, Whales. You can check out Whales and Binge's other work at www.bingeculture.co.nz.
I am passionate about art that connects with audiences on all sorts of emotional levels, and that increases self and community awareness and compassion. I love Jenny Holzer, Anne Carson, Colin McCahon, Jenny Bornholdt, Mark Rothko, Jeff Koons, Joan Didion and Sufjan Stevens, to name a few.
The best things I have seen in recent years are A Lot Of Sorrow by Ragnar Kjartansson and The National at Copenhagen Contemporary, Swan Lake/Loch na hEala by Teac Damsa & created by Michael Keegan-Dolan, Cindy Sherman at Wellington City Gallery, Call Me by Your Name directed by Luca Guadagnino, La Grande Bellezza by co-written and directed by Paolo Sorrentino, Nanette by Hannah Gadsby and My Best Dead Friend by Anya Tate-Manning and Isobel MacKinnon at BATS Theatre.
The best thing I have read in recent years is The Summer Book by Tove Jansson.
