Bill Manhire to retire from International Institute of Modern Letters — 22.03.11

Bill Manhire is to retire as Director, of Victoria University's International Institute of Modern Letters, freeing up more time for his own writing.

Quoted from the Dominion Post at the time of the announcement of Bill Manhire's as Director of The International Institue of Modern Letters:

"Those who are sad that Manhire is leaving can console themselves with the thought that he will be producing new poems. "I suppose the nice thing about thinking of yourself as a writer is that you never retire," he muses. "I might miss sitting in a room with students and showing off, the ego satisfaction that teachers somehow get.

"I'll miss the view. But most of me just thinks now, that I will have time to write. Instead of complaining that I don't have time to write, I'll have to do it.""
