John Psathas and Rattle — 02.03.10

Rattle Records has announced that John Psathas has agreed to join them as a Director.

Rattle Records has announced that John Psathas has agreed to joined them as a Director.  John's extensive network of contacts both here and abroad will enhance Rattle's ability to identify and work with the best of local talent, and to better present our music to the world.

In the meantime, Rattle is readying his new album for release.  Ukiyo features Portuguese percussion maestro, Pedro Carneiro. This album is percussion-based, and while it contains moments of explosive energy characteristic of John's work (particularly in the extended chamber ensemble, Psyzygysm), overall Ukiyo projects an intimacy and moodiness that reveals another side to John's music.  The album will be released on 16 April 2010 to coincide with the world premier of John's Marimba Concerto, Djinn, which was jointly commissioned by Pedro and Wellington's Vector Orchestra. It will be performed by the Vector Orchestra, conducted by Marc Taddei, with Pedro as soloist.

Ukiyo will be available for purchase at a special pre-release price from the Rattle  website by the end of March 2010.
