  • A unique opportunity to join a progressive charitable board of trustees in the arts
  • Help build on a philanthropic movement of support for New Zealand’s artists, and amplify their impact

Backing artists to make the mark, the Arts Foundation Te Tumu Toi exists to boost opportunities for artists and amplify their impact. The Arts Foundation was launched in 2000 and it represents a collective of arts supporters who believe the arts are integral to a thriving Aotearoa New Zealand. As well as giving financial gifts and recognition to New Zealand’s most outstanding artists (Arts Foundation Icons, Laureates and Springboards) we are also on a mission to build a groundswell of visibility and value around the impact artists are having on New Zealand. We run Boosted.org.nz – a crowdfunding platform that brought in $2 million for artists and arts organisations in the past year. We also run a strong advocacy programme.

With a minimum three year term, applicants need to have a strong record in governance and/or be engaged with the arts in some way, and excited about working with an innovative management team. The team is currently half way through delivering a refreshed strategic plan to bring in more private funds and raise the visibility and the value of artists for New Zealanders. A new strategy will be developed at the end of this year to build on this work.

In particular, we’re looking for individuals based in Central Otago, Wellington and Christchurch who have strategic or commercial skills, are creative thinkers, lovers of the arts – and are prepared to approach arts philanthropy from a different point of view. Experience in governance and a Te Ao Māori view would be very welcome.

This is a unique opportunity to join an extraordinary organisation which is thriving in Aotearoa New Zealand.

Please send your CV and a brief note to Chair of the board, Garth Gallaway at info@thearts.co.nz.
