Annual Report 2019-2020

Our financial year in numbers – what a year it has been

As we reflect on the 2019-2020 financial year, the Arts Foundation Te Tumu Toi would like to thank our growing whānau for their ongoing support. Our giving community’s efforts has enabled artists to keep making, and to be recognised for their courageous path, at a time when Aotearoa New Zealand needs them most.

With the help of our collective, the Arts Foundation Te Tumu Toi made exciting progress over the last year. We’ve also put together our first annual report for audited accounts 2019-2020. Highlights include:

  • Awarded $1 million more to artists than the year before
  • Awarded ten Arts Foundation Laureates $25,000 each
  • Gained unprecedented media coverage to let the country know the contribution our artists are making
  • Introduced Springboard, a new awards program to nurture six creatives at the formative stages of their careers
  • Re-launched a snazzy new Boosted crowdfunding platform
  • In just three weeks built a $100,000 Future Fund in response to Covid-19 level 4 lockdown that was gifted to one hundred artists and arts organisations. Then in three months raised $1 million for artists on Boosted (this is more than our usual annual budget)
  • Shone a spotlight on the arts during the inaugural Arts Month in September 2019
  • Funded four new Laureates for ten year commitments thanks to Theresa Gattung, Adrian Burr, My Art (Glenn and Sonja Hawkins) and Sir Roger Hall

The Arts Foundation Te Tumu Toi is grateful to our supporters, donors, partners and service providers. Your continued support enables us to continue on our mission; to boost opportunities for artists and amplify their impact back to Aotearoa New Zealand.

As 2020 Arts Foundation Laureate, Poet, Tusiata Avia MNZ so kindly put it:

“It’s amazing to know you people are out there – it’s like knowing fairies exist!”

Thank you for helping us to continue making the magic happen.
