At Sweepstakes, New Zealand's Best Game Show, we follow three contestants as they try to win a million dollars by entering as many giveaways & sweepstakes possible without succumbing to the cost of living crisis. The project follows these three lucky contestants in their journey of consumption, luck and chaos. No celebrities, no gimmicks, just three broke as creatives trying to get lucky by any means necessary. Behind the scenes, the host of the show provides a running commentary, month-by-month, on the contestants journeys. Follow them through their woes of dealing with money, class, and survival in a cost-of-living crisis. 

Minty Fletcher Dobson & Ethan Stephen of Coalesce are both Yoobee graduates who have worked together on the AfterClass Podcast and numerous short films together. We pitched this project to the production company who have kindly backed us to create this show. We are both multi faceted individuals with an impulse for story telling & the creative arts, Ethan specialises in rich, thought provoking world building & writing. Minty prefers a more practical hands on approach, specializing in visual story telling through camera work & editing.

The crew working and writing on this show are Yoobee graduates and writers out of work. We've developed a budget for the show to come in around $4.5k. We're asking for $5,000 to give our team some wriggle room to make this as great as possible.

Wellington has been going through a tough time recently; it's no secret. We've been constructing a video series about money for a long time but found nothing more fun to produce (and watch) than a game show. The commentary is that you've gotta "Be in to win" most of the prizes that are shoved in front of us. Our show is designed to test that theory and follow our contestants through their various trials and tribulations; living out the dream of everyone who wished they had more time to sign up for everything. 

Our crew follow around and interview our contestants journeys while also getting to know their own relationship with money during this cost-of-living crisis. Contestants will show up on set for interviews, deep dives and small minigames that make this a fun watch.

Sweepstakes is destined for Youtube, with each episode being around 20 minutes long. The entire season concludes and ends when the contestants reach the one million dollars or give up; which we hope they won't do.

Our team want to open up the conversations around how different people are managing this cost-of-living crisis through our game show. In many communities around Aotearoa, money continues to be a taboo topic. The impact of having three contestants shamelessly clipping coupons and signing up for giveaways alongside guests, experts and the host; will be an engaging watch for a lot of households.
