Empty the Clip Fringe 2025
Justice Kalolo | Dance
The Project
Empty the Clip is a post-modern piece that explores the themes of conformity and confinement using elements of hip hop movement and physical storytelling. It utilises a variety of different art forms including dance and mask. All of these are vehicles for the pieces’ kaupapa.
This has been devised by a cast and crew of brown artists and facilitated by Justice Kalolo. Justice first created this work as a development in 2024 and will now bring it to Fringe Festival 2025, showcasing the work and talents of his collaborators to his community and the wider Wellington region.

The Funding
All of your donations will go to koha for cast and crew and our production costs.
The Details
The company wants to test how we put up a show for our people and how it can change with them in mind. Everything done from the devising and expansion to the marketing and outreach will all be with them in mind.
This is something that we are not new to, with a lot of the crew previously having worked with communities and schools in Porirua and Lower Hutt through festivals such as Te Kiwa Nui and Pasifika United. We hope to reignite these connections and use this fund to work towards bringing this work to life for them to watch.
The Impact
This piece is an excuse to bring our people into an over-saturated space and allow them to relax and dream. Show them that their interests can be a lifestyle and a hobby. Another reason why the content is so important is to have centred around the interests of ourselves as a collective people so that our audience can bring another avenue of themselves.
As mentioned, there is a mask used in the piece, it could be anyone under those veils, and the company wishes to bring that sense of dreaming to our people and we hope to be given the tools to make that happen, because we cannot do it alone.
