Shaun Swain
Based in Te Whanganui-a-Tara, Swain is an award-winning director, playwright, and actor, with rave-reviewed and sold out shows such as Arcade Theatre's "No Exit," Vixen Temple's "Just The Tip" and Dunedin Summer Shakespeare’s “A Midsummer Night’s Dream.”
Swain made his first sizzle reel "RAT" as part of The Director's Program in 2019, followed by his short film directing debut "Blackout" in the MFA at Victoria University of Wellington in 2023.
Swain is a diverse and versatile storyteller, playfully toeing the line between farcical comedy and psychological horror. Visceral yet cerebral; energetic yet penetrative. Whether it be their Playmarket award-winning children's play "Prince Charming" or his debut film "Blackout," they strive to tell stories that punch-up, punch hard, are vital, and rightfully unsettling yet cathartic in equal measure.
Bill Tito: The Unread Story is Swain's first foray into the world of producing for documentary. It has been in equal measure a pleasure and an honour to have collaborated with Dini Aristya and the engimatic Bill Tito himself.
