A graduate of New Zealand School of Dance, Raewyn was born in Oamaru and spent her childhood in a number of small towns of the South Island of New Zealand. Raewyn has become one of New Zealand's foremost contemporary dance-theatre practitioners, having received numerous awards and accolades from critics and audiences throughout Australasia.

Raewyn is highly regarded for her flair in balancing a strong physicality with a precise technical vocabulary and managed her own professional dance company for many years. From 2007 - 2009 she was artist-in-residence at The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, after which she was invited as artist-in-residence at Cité Internationale des Arts in Paris from August to October 2009 and Baryshnikov Arts Centre August, 2010.

Raewyn's work has been presented by festivals and venues worldwide, including New Zealand Arts Festivals: Auckland, Nelson, Christchurch, Taupo and Dunedin; Brisbane Arts Festival (Australia), Sydney Opera House (Australia), Ten Days on the Island (Tasmania), Brisbane Powerhouse ( Brisbane) Hong Kong Arts Festival (China), Peter Sharpe Theatre (New York), COCA (Australia), Bolshoi Theatre (Russia), Baryshnikov Arts Centre (New York), Juilliard (New York), National Arts Centre (Japan).

Since her appointment as Artistic Director of Dancenorth she has created critically acclaimed works for the company, the cry (2010), Black Crows (2010), the Helpmann nominated MASS (2011), FUGUE (2012) and most recently ABANDON (2013) which was created with Opera Queensland. In 2011 she returned to Cité Internationale des Arts in Paris as artist in residence and was a subject in Sue Healey's dance film Virtuosi documenting the international careers of New Zealand artist.

Australian Dance Awards nominations and shortlisting for 2013 included Outstanding Community Dance for Small Dances//Big stories and a nomination for Services to Dance Education. Raewyn was recently named in the top 50 influential people in North Queensland and was appointed as a Queensland Culture Champion by the Queensland Government.

2014 Australian Dance Award nominations include Outstanding Performance by a Company (Abandon), Outstanding Community Dance (Shake a leg), Best female dancer (Alice Hinde). Raewyn is currently creating a new work ‘the inside' for Dancenorth, with New Zealanders Duncan Sarkies (writer) and Eden Mulholland (composer).
