Welcome - Derek Lardelli - to the Arts Foundation Board of Trustees — 30.01.13

We are pleased to welcome Derek Lardelli as an Arts Foundation Trustee. Several Arts Foundation Laureates have been/or are currently Arts Foundation Governors. Derek is the first Laureate to join the Board of Trustees.

Derek Lardelli, ONZM, Laureate, (Ngāti Porou / Rongowhakaata ), is an educationalist, visual artist, kapa haka performer (he is kapa haka tutor for the national award winning group Whangara Mai Tawhiti), composer, graphic designer, researcher of whakapapa, tribal history, and kaikorero.  He is a fluent speaker of Māori with a commitment to the culture, language and customs of his ancestors. Derek is regarded as one of Aotearoa New Zealand's finest tā moko artists and has been prominent in explaining the revival of the art and its spiritual significance to audiences throughout Aotearoa New Zealand and overseas. Derek is principal tutor and an Associate Professor at the Toihoukura School of Maori Arts, based at the Gisborne Tairawhiti campus of Eastland Institute of Technology.
