Alastair Galbraith - 3 and a half octave flame organ — 22.04.10

Alastair Galbraith (Laureate) receives funding to help complete his 3 and a half octave flame organ. The organ includes 44 Burners which will be mechanically controlled from a keyboard, to produce notes in borosilicate Rijke tubes.

Congratulations to Alastair Galbraith (Laureate) who has just learnt his team will receive 'phase two' funding from the Smash Palace Fund, a collaboration between Creative NZ and Ministry of Research Science and Technology, to help  complete his 3 and a half octave flame organ. The organ includes  44 burners which will be mechanically controlled from a keyboard, to produce notes in borosilicate Rijke tubes.  The team consists of Anne Ryan and Greg Kerr (glass-blowers), Tim Duval-Smith (mechanical engineer) and Alastair Galbraith (musician).
