TVNZ 7 and the Arts Foundation partner to connect New Zealand artists and audiences — 18.11.10

A new partnership will see TVNZ 7 and The Arts Foundation promote New Zealand artists by creating new ways for audiences to learn about and feel connected to well-established and up-and-coming artists.

The TVNZ7/Arts Foundation partnership was launched on 3 November at The Arts Foundation Laureate Awards in Dunedin.  The Laureate Awards  annually celebrate five New Zealand artists who have a proven track-record. Each recipient receives $50,000 in recognition of their artistic achievement and to help them continue working at a high level.

In addition, five significant early career artists will be celebrated with the New Generation Awards, this year held in Auckland on December 13. These artists will receive $25,000 to help support them as they grow their artistic careers.

TVNZ 7 has created video profiles of each artist for the 2010 Laureate Awards and New Generation Awards. A new series of short programmes featuring the artists will launch on TVNZ 7 early in 2011. TVNZ 7 and The Arts Foundation look forward to expanding the partnership further and the potential to create exciting new arts content.

Simon Bowden, Executive Director of The Arts Foundation, is excited about sharing these successes with TVNZ 7 viewers.

"Our artists have been telling their stories at our events for years, but each time the audience is in the hundreds. Our new partnership will change this significantly. With TVNZ 7 we will be able to share our artists, their ideas, work and achievements with all New Zealanders," says Bowden.

Philippa Mossman, TVNZ 7 Channel Manager, is equally as thrilled with the natural fit of TVNZ 7's and The Arts Foundation's core objectives.

"TVNZ 7 seeks to provide stimulating content that is relevant, informative and insightful" says Mossman. "We are inspired to be working in partnership with the Arts Foundation to raise the profile of New Zealand artists and we are excited to grow this collaboration further."
