The New Zealand Arts Awards 2017 — 06.11.17

The New Zealand Arts Awards 2017 were hosted by ASB at the ASB Waterfront Theatre in Auckland.
The New Zealand Arts Awards gets its power from sharing aspirations and this only works when our guests come with open mind and hearts. They did, and they made the night.

We had a special night celebrating artistic achievement and the potential for the arts throughout society. We were moved to tears and laughter by the artists’ acceptances:

Holding his Terry Stringer Sculpture in one hand and the cheque for $50,000 in the other, 2017 Laureate Rob Ruha said (something like), “And I share this award with my iwi, by that I mean this [referring to the sculpture] and not this [referring to the cheque], this [the cheque] is for me and if you want it, you’ll need a better settlement lawyer”.

Guests enjoyed fine wines from our partner Gladstone Vineyard and craft beer from Yeastie Boys and were invited to have their portraits taken in the Glow Booth - using the glowing magic of bioluminescence to uniquely light the faces of our guests a beautiful and fun example of the magic that can be created at the intersection between art and science their pictures taken glowbooth photographs.

We’d like to thank Arts Foundation Patrons again for your generosity. Your donations were gratefully received by the recipients on Monday. Anyone is welcome to become a Patron, if you’re not a Patron and would like to become one, join here
