Holly Mathieson will be assisting United States conductor Marin Alsop, who will become the first woman to conduct the BBC Last Night of the Proms  in London on September 7.

It will be the first time in the 119-year history of the Proms in England that the concert has been led by a woman conductor. Holly will also assist her with the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment concert on August 17.  Holly says she is very excited to have the support and mentoring of Alsop, who is one of the top conductors in the world.

Holly Mathieson came to Alsop's attention when she selected her as one of three finalists for the coveted Taki Concordia Fellowship in the US. Holly received an honorable mention and will receive ongoing mentoring from Alsop. Holly recently ran a successful Boosted project for the Horizont Musik-Kollektiv, a Berlin-based music group, bringing together ex-pat New Zealand  orchestral musicians and singers to perform the New Zealand music in that city.

You can hear Holly speaking about this opportunity with Eva Raddich on Radio New Zealand Concert recorded on Thursday, 27 June 2013.
