A major survey exhibition by Alex Monteith will take over the entire Govett-Brewster Art Gallery in September. The exhibition features ambitiously-scaled video installations

Alex Monteith was an inaugural recipient of an Arts Foundation New Generation Award.  She is a current finalist in the 2010 Walters Prize.

Several multi-channel works, up to 15 metres in width, will absorb the gallery spaces in a whole-of-gallery encounter and will premiere Alex Monteith's most recent project, shot in the South Island with the Royal New Zealand Air during Exercise Blackbird 2010.

Also included is Red Sessions on surfing shot at Taranaki's Stent Road, a five channel video installation shot with the RNZAF's Red Checkers, and a mesmerising looping manoeuvre with motorcycle legend Shaun Harris. There are also two works dedicated to Waitangi Day protests including the Auckland Harbour Bridge march.

This is only the third time in the gallery's 40 year history that a single artist has taken over the whole gallery to exhibit.
