DIY Arts Dinner Clues: Sir Ian Athfield

Thanks for playing with us! Here are your clues...

Sir Ian Athfield, 2013 Arts Foundation Icon
Architect

1. One of his most famous projects, a sprawling home and office in Wellington, is one of the greatest stories of New Zealand architecture. Books have been written about it, and it recently received an NZIA Enduring Architecture Medal. It was built on a shoe string budget, and many of it's most iconic features came from demolition sites. Today, the “village” is home to 22 people, and the workplace of 35.

2. His work is known for being experimental and impossible to typecast: one house definitely does not look like the other.

3. In 1977, Sam Neill directed a full-length documentary about him.
