Delia Mathews was born in New Zealand in 1990. She started dancing when she was five years old. Delia trained with Prue and Debbie Gooch, at the Dance Education Centre, Tauranga.

As a young dancer, Delia had considerable success in many competitions around New Zealand. She received Distinctions in all ballet exams from Primary to Advanced 2 for the Royal Academy of Dance examining body and Honours in all ballet exams from Primary to Advanced 1 for the British Ballet.

Having proved herself considerably, Delia made the decision to move to England at the age of 15. Delia was accepted to London's prestigious Royal Ballet School, the youngest girl to be accepted that year. While studying at the Royal Ballet School, Delia danced with the Royal Ballet Company in La Bayadere and with the Birmingham Royal Ballet in The Nutcracker, Swan Lake and The Orpheus Suite. After graduating from the three year course with the Dame Ninette De Valois Award (for the most outstanding graduate), Delia was accepted into the Birmingham Royal Ballet (BRB) in 2008.

The BRB is a British ballet company and one of the three leading classical ballet companies in the United Kingdom. It was originally formed as the sister company of today's Royal Ballet. The BRB relocated to Birmingham in 1990, becoming the resident ballet company at the Birmingham Hippodrome theatre. It is now independent of the Royal Ballet in London, although it retains strong links with the company and the Royal Ballet School.

Since joining the Company, Delia has performed in many different productions. Her repertory includes; Galantries (Pas de deux), Sylvia (Huntress, Diana's Follower), Enigma Variations (Isabel Fitton), E=mc2 (Energy, Mass, Celeritas2). Her highlight so far has been performing the role of the Sugar Plum fairy in The Nutcracker, December 2009. Delia is creating the role of "Winter" in David Bintley's new production of Cinderella which will premiere in December 2010.

In 2008, Gillian & Roderick Deane chose to give Delia a donation of $10,000 as part of the Arts Foundation Award for Patronage . In Gillian's speech on the night of the ceremony, she congratulated Delia on her "artistry and dedication."
