"The Frighteners is a 1996 comedy horror film directed by Peter Jackson and co-written with his wife, Fran Walsh. The film's cast includes Michael J. Fox, Trini Alvarado, John Astin, Jeffrey Combs, Dee Wallace, Jake Busey and Chi McBride. The Frighteners tells the story of Frank Bannister (Fox), an architect who develops psychic abilities allowing him to see, hear, and communicate with ghosts. After losing his wife, he uses his new abilities by cheating money out of customers for his "ghosthunting" business. However, a mass murderer comes back from Hell, prompting Frank to investigate the supernatural presence."

Sir Peter Jackson is a New Zealand film director, producer, actor, and screenwriter.  He received an Arts Foundation Icon Award in 2011.  The Icon Award honours extraordinary New Zealand artists who have made a significant impact on their chosen art form.  Sir Peter was recognised for his contribution as a leader in New Zealand film.  The Award is considered the Arts Foundation's highest honour and is limited to a living circle of twenty artists.
