The Harriet Friedlander Residency

Supported by the Arts Foundation, the Harriet Friedlander Residency sends an artist to New York for as long as $80,000 will last them.  Harriet Friedlander was a dedicated supporter of the arts. She also loved New York. She believed that any young artist exposed to the city would learn and grow in unimaginable ways.

Florian Habicht (Inaugural recipient of the Harriet Friedlander Residency) and Seung Yul Oh (2011)

Harriet Friedlander was a committed advocate of contemporary art. She recognised how artists share their vision and inspiration with us. Art was an indispensable ingredient within Harriet's life, she needed to experience art everyday.

Harriet personally planned the character of this innovative residency. She wanted to support artists to research and network in her own favourite international city. As a staunch patron, Harriet believed that artists could be assisted to further develop their vocation. Simply put, Harriet always said ‘I just want to help artists'.
