About donating

Since our inception we have received over $1 million in donations from people wanting to support artists. But this just the beginning. If we want to give the arts a serious boost, then we need to come together to do it.

The Arts Foundation makes it easy to give to our finest artists, whether your donation is a little or a lot. You can pitch in and make a one off donation on this website. You can also join us and become a member (called a Patron). If you have a big idea, such as making a donation to start a new award or project, then talk to us.

Donations

One-off or regular donations can be made at any time. Use this option if you would like to give us a helping hand. Most donations types are general. However, if you are responding to a request to support a programme relating to the Laureate or New Generation Awards, then you should select that donation type when you make your donation.

If you would like to make a significant donation, then it is best to talk to us about how this is best used to support the arts.

Patronage

Financial members of the Arts Foundation, called Patrons, are committed supporters who make annual, or in some cases one-off, donations. As a financial member, Patrons have the right to attend our AGM and elect Governors. Governors appoint our Trustees. Patrons are acknowledged in our publications and are very important to us. We cannot function without a membership and are inspired every day by the dedication of our members. If you are interested in the arts and helping generate more private support for them, then the Arts Foundation is your membership organisation.

A big idea

Do you think there is an art form that needs more support or recognition? Can you or a group of people you know find the means to make a difference? The Arts Foundation has the ability to invest donations in perpetuity and to direct the income from the investment to a project instigated by donors. For example, you might want to establish an award for dance, film, composition, poetry, etc. You might want to establish a residency or a new commission. We are only too happy to hear your ideas and work with you to achieve your objectives. How much would it cost? To give you an idea, a $200,000 donation would generate enough funds to create and administer a new award of $10,000 to be presented every two years.

Tax effective

All donations are acknowledged and a receipt issued on payment. GST is not payable on donations. Receipts can be used to gain tax relief. Most donations qualify for a 33% tax rebate up to the annual net income of the donor; visit the IRD website for more information. Donations are not refundable.

Acknowledgement

When you become a donor to the Foundation we like to let everybody know, it helps us promote giving. However, if you'd rather be anonymous, that's ok too. Donors receive our publications, email news and are invited to events when capacity allows. It is important to us that you know your donation is being used effectively.

The door is always open at the Foundation and we like getting questions about donating to the arts. If you have decided to make a donation , thanks very much, we look forward to hearing from you soon.
